Out of Focus

We all hate it when we take a photograph and it turns out blurry, and you can’t see the details. This happens when we do not focus our camera or do not have the autofocus on. This is the way some Christians walk around because they are not focused on God. They are blurry and can’t see the details.
Numerous scriptures in the bible tell us to keep our minds on God and I believe this is in order to keep us focused. Romans 8:5 says For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. Colossians 3:2 Set your mind on things above, not on things of the earth. God knows that we tend to focus on what we care most about or what is a priority to us. If we stay focused on God and our walk with him then he knows he is a priority in our life.
When we shift our focus off God, we begin to make bad choices in our lives. We stop praying and asking God what we should do and letting him lead us. We start doing what we want to do, and this always get us in trouble. Just because God doesn’t give you the answer you want doesn’t mean he didn’t answer. It is not easy when God tells us no, but if we are obedient we will listen.
When we shift our focus off God, things that were once clear to us have now become blurred and we can’t see the details. We tend to start trying to blend the things of the world with the things of God. We start trying to justify the things of the world, however, what God calls sin is a sin. Society may blur the lines of what is sin but as Christians we know if the Bible calls it a sin then it is a sin. God said he is the same yesterday, today and forever and so is his Word.
When we shift our focus off God, our light doesn’t shine as bright to the world as it once did. We begin to blend in with the world instead of standing out as God called us to do. He said to come out from among them and be separate. This means we should act and talk differently because he has transformed us. We are to walk worthy of God, fully pleasing him, and being fruitful. If we are blending in with world then our light is not shining, and we are not walking worthy of God.
As Christians we are not perfect and we all make mistakes but if we are continuing to make the same mistake over and over then it has become a choice not a mistake. If any of the scenarios above describe you then you are out of focus with God. You have allowed yourself to become blurry because you lost your focus on God. The great news is God is a forgiving God and all you need to do is ask him to forgive you. Start spending time in his word and in prayer again. You can’t focus on God if you are not in his Word or spending time in prayer with him.
Let’s make 2018 the year that we as Christians put our focus back on God. That we allow him to take us where he wants us to go. That we grow in our wisdom and knowledge of him. That we dig deeper in the Word and in prayer to increase our faith and endurance. That we are able to finish the race set before us.
Thank you for reading and have a great day in Jesus Christ!!

  1. Fix your eyes upon Jesus/look full in His wonderful face/and the things of earth will grow strangely dim/in the light of His glory and grace. The words of the hymn filled my heart as I read your wise post.
